UNfair & Lovely

Unfair & Lovely !!
A recent study carried out by Anthropologists have discovered that, the 1st woman on the face of the green mother earth was an AFRICAN !!
How does this sound to fair skin loving society ??!!
The color of the skin is imparted by a pigment called melanin, whose activity depends upon exposure to sun. Now, during the time of anthropological evolution, the human diaspora migrated to several places with varying intensity of sunlight. So Europians who faced less sunlight came out as a fairer race, Africans, who lived in the tropics, had more exposure to sunlight hence higher activation of melanin and hence a darker color. We Indians, were stuck somewhere with an average sunlight and so we have wheatish complexion…
If we take a look at the indian society :
1. We always say about dark skinned girls : oh ! the girl is dark-skinned or dusky, BUT, look at her features !! or BUT look at her other talents … My question to this society is, WHY DO WE NEED TO ADD A “ BUT” IN BETWEEN ?! when we say we are not Biased toward any color, WHY is the BUT ?
2. Ellesha Newton & Sherine Anderson, 2 cheerleaders for KXIP, were sent back home during IPL-2007. Isn’t this pure Racism ?!
3. South Africans or Blacks in USA now know the meaning of “ KAALIYA”
And, that’s because we INDIANS addressed them in this manner !! Still !!
4. Why is it so that a FOREIGN tourist who is a BLACK, never gets RAPED ??
5. Our, southern part of india, which is blessed with oodles of intellect and talent, why is it that, they have dark actors but all the leading ladies of “Kollywood” or “Tollywood” are ultra-fair. ??

Advertisements are a strong motif, a strong, representation of the society. So let us check out these rampant fairness cream ads.
The first advertisement that comes to my mind is the year 2000.
The girl is going to get married to a relatively handsome guy. (here handsome= fair skinned) . The girl’s kins are happy and consider girl to be lucky, enter Fair & Lovely and a V.O. suggesting a 14 day routine, the girls is metamorphed into snow white ! And so are the girl’s relatives, who now, surprisingly consider that the GUY is LUCKKY to get to be married to the FAIR SKINNED girl !!
Much furore and hoopla had been created when this ad was aired and had to be removed after a court case.
Next came the brand’s career oriented approach,in 2001, wherein the girl gives an audition for a Rakesh Roshan movie, but unfortunately doesn’t get the role because of her COMPLEXION !! (to hell with acting skills and personality !!) enter a Fairness cream, and Rakesh Roshan is literally BEDAZZLED by her UBER-FAIR complexion and TADA !! She gets the role !! I guess Rakesh Roshan had acted in the ad, as a reflection of his success with KAHO NA PYAAR HAI !! and maybe, just maybe, all he did in that movie was to cast a Fair skinned actress, as he had to give more attention to his son !! FAIR enough …
2003-2004. With the rise of Reality TV, and makeover of a common man, to an ACCIDENTAL CELIBRITY, a new Ad came in.
A girl, who might’ve been good singer, wishes to participate in a singing reality show. But her father, who might;ve been partly worried of her complexion and partly because of the fickle nature of reality TV, urges her to study hard. The girl’s younger sister, secretly gives her a fairness cream and the girl gets a photo-shoot done after a application of the cream and she gets selected !! but ahoy ! the selection has got nothing to do with her SINGING ! she sent photos and now she gets selected !!
2007. A good lookin fair girl is about to be married to a rather, plump guy !! The guy on their 1st meet is completely awed by the girl and her HI !! the HI !! keeps running around in his mind, and he is completely inspired by it and he works out the XTRA lipids and mets her after 15 days lookin ALL SLIM ! NOW, this was a very good ad, givin a view of a new, changing society. Wherein, unlike the tradtional system, a guy changes himself for a girl before marriage !!
2009 This ad has a jingle goin kike this : apni iraado ko … tum hosla de do…… mutthi mein meri Taakat de do !!
Bang !! this ad is about showing girls entering a completely new environ, and other FEMALES who are close to these girls give them : mutthi mein taakat !! The taakat here, is FAIRNESS CREAM !! I cant take the fact that feminine sex is doin this to each other, I mean, are they tryin to show their prejudice against DARK SKIN ?! Are they ostensibly trying to establish a notion
“ Fair skinned people have more Opportunities”

In, india, we mght not have a bias towards the fair skin, but, are we sure we do not condemn, a skin, darker than ours ??
Then , why are these fairness creams still persistent ??
Do we secretly abhor the dark skin color ? Do dusky girls, somewhere in the dim caverns of her mind hate themselves ??

If someone tries to give me COLONIAL- MENTALITY- MINDSET, the BRITS have gone 62 years have passe, almost 2 generations have changed. Still are we stuck in a time warp ??
Let us not put lame arguments of CONDOLEZZA RICE or BIPASHA BASU or NAOMI CAMPBELL… As we all know these are just EXCEPTIONS, or TOKENS,which could be found out in any statistical representation of data !!
I’ll conclude with a sad news, MIKAAEL JACKSON JUST DIED… AN EPITOME OF A BLACK LOOKED DOWN UPON AND HENCE HE CHANGED HIMSELF TO BE FAIR !!!

  2. Thats not purely the Indian thought. The orgin or the root of the thought lies in the thinking of Americans and Europeans, which we Indians are Blindly following. Its not the only issue which we do follow but also others such as fashion, health and even people here now-a-days do yoga cause Americans have adopted it. Isn't that shameful?
